Izabel

Just finished the first volume of Saga by Brian K. Vaughan with really great art by Fiona Staples. Izabel was so darn cute. My favourite by far.

Playing Catch-up

It's been a bit quiet around here lately so I though I'd make a post containing some sketches and finished work I have posted to my Tumblr and Twitter. I tend to post more to my Tumblr these days so feel free to follow my page for all the latest updates.

I've surmised from this post that I tend to favour female characters! I'll have to practise drawing more men for sure. Still, it's a group of pretty awesome ladies!

Lin and No Face for the #GhibliLadiesCollaboration on Twitter/ Tumblr

The new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan

Bayonetta

Daenerys Targaryen

The Fight Card

And last but not least I revisited the characters from my Animation Art Show piece (which you can find here). Still trying to figure out a story for these two. Figuring out names for them would be a good start!
As always, thanks so much for popping by!

Collaborations!

Recently, myself and my friend from college, Rachel Wilson, decided to do a collaboration project. We would each sketch something for the other to colour. This was so much fun and I realised I much prefer colouring other people's lines than doing my own!

Here is what I sketched for Rachel:

And here it is after she did the colour:

Rach did such an amazing job with this. I love it. And the fact that I was lazy and didn't provide her with a background makes her even more awesome!

Here is what Rach sketched for me:

And here is the coloured version:

You can check out more of Rachel Wilson's fantastic work here. Thanks for popping by!

Some gifts.

Over Christmas time I did a few portraits for friends and family. With the recipients' permission I'm posting them here now.

The first was done for my dear friend Lucy for her birthday. I had a lot of fun with this and it helped me develop my recent art style even further.

The second was done as a Christmas present for my sister and her boyfriend. The two of them welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world last September. I went for a more simplistic style with this one but I think it turned out just as nicely.

YooByoo

Recently I had a stint working with the good folks at Treehouse Republic. While I was there I did design work for a few projects.

One project I'm particularly proud to have contributed to was an ad for children's charity YooByoo. I designed the backgrounds for the animated segment of the advert.

Here's are some further pieces I did when developing the backgrounds.

The full advert for YooByoo can be found here. Check it out!

Thanks as always for dropping by!

Vintage Portrait

Done for the Irish Sketch Society. This week's theme is Old Fashioned Portraits.
I originally did this in colour and threw a bunch of filters over it to give it the vintage effect. The one on the left is the one I submitted. The one on the right is the piece in it's pre-filter form. Because I like the colours so much I decided to put it up here too.

Thanks for having a look!

The Vale of Tears

Please right-click images to view in full.

Whew! This is such a mess. It took me forever and I was never entirely sure what I was doing. Lots of experimentation and not everything works. But I'm happy with it overall.

A tribute to one of the prettiest games I've played in a while. I can't do it justice.

Thanks for having a look!

Blackadder II

"It is said, Percy, that civilised man seeks out good and intelligent company, so that through learned discourse he may rise above the savage and closer to God.

Personally, however, I like to start the day with a total dickhead to remind me I'm best."

Ellie

Ellie's a cool dude. She's also quite annoying. Mixed feelings.

Done using this brush, recommended by Adam Kavanagh. Check out his blog here.

Misdirection

This is my submission for this year's Animation Art Show in the Science Gallery. It's a fun little auction that helps raise money for a good cause. Lots of my friends from the industry have entered pieces as well. I encourage anyone who's in the area on the 2nd and 3rd of November to pop along. It's going to be a great event. Details below.

Dr. Mrs The Monarch

Fanart again, I know. It's hard to find creative energy when you're working and I just needed the practice. Hopefully I can come up with some original stuff soon :)

Here are the storyboards for my graduate film Cat Calls which finished production in April.
