Life Drawing In Colour!

Mob Squad / Simpsons reference ;)

Anyhoo, for the past two weeks we've been having what is referred to as our experimental lessons in life drawing class. This touches upon two of my biggest fears in drawing: mixing of media and colour! I can't wrap my head around colour, just can't do it. But god help me I try.

We started off by warming up with a few 30 second gestures.

Following this we moved into mixed media. I found I got good results by doing my under drawings with a fine liner pen and then going in with oil and chalk pastels.

I like how all of these turned out, although I do regret not using a darker colour paper for the two bottom drawings. I hope to revisit this style later in the year.

As always, thanks for popping by :)

Some recent life drawing.

Update 23/10/11:  I didn't want to clutter up things with a new post for just two drawings so I think I'll pop them in here :)

Here's another contour drawing done semi- blind.

Here's an example of some scribble drawing where you only highlight busy areas on the body. We did quite a few of these but I found this one works the best in terms of proportion and structure.

Right, an update is long overdue so here's some of my better pieces from my last few life drawing classes.

These first two poses were done semi-blind using pencil, on 22/09/11

These two were completed just this morning in a free-style class, also in pencil, 13/10/11.

I'll be making more of a conscious effort to update this blog regularly from now on, so stay tuned!
